Amblyopia
 ("lazy eye")

IN BRIEF

Reduced visual acuity that is (a) not correctible with glasses and (b) not caused by structural abnormalities or eye disease.

DISCUSSION

Amblyopia is commonly called "lazy eye" because it is typically the result of inadequate use of one eye, often during childhood and due to things like crossed eyes or differences in image size or quality between the eyes. Symptoms include blurred vision in one eye and favouring one eye over the other.

People with amblyopia should not have laser eye surgery.
